Burn Permits
Open Burning is allowed by permit by Brown County Resolution 2015-13.
Burn permit must be obtained from Brown County Sheriff's Dispatch (785) 742-7125.
Person initiating the burn must notify Brown County Dispatch two hours before starting the burn.
Person initiating the burn shall notify Brown County Dispatch when the burn is extinguished.
Per Kansas Statute K.A.R. 28-19-645, no hay bales may be burned.
NO BURNING WHEN:
- 1) the National Weather Service Rangleland Fire Index for Brown County is:
HIGH, VERY HIGH, or EXTREME. (Click here for fire index... go to Brown County) - 2) the sustained wind speed meets or exceeds 20 mph.
